Something Unusual Happened

I never get to go to the movies. In fact, before yesterday I don’t even know what the last movie I saw, was. However, something incredible happened; not only did I get to go to a movie of my choosing yesterday, but it was enjoyable!

As anyone who is a long time reader of this blog knows, I am a huge Emma Thompson fan. When the TV began advertising The Love Punch with Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan playing a divorced couple who lose their life savings and decide to get it back, I was intrigued. It looked like a typical English romp, but then I like those, so I decided to splurge.

The theater was nearly empty on an early Friday afternoon, which is just how I like it. Imagine my surprise when the preview trailers came on and three out of four actually looked interesting to me. That was a first.

As soon as the feature began, I was in. Yes, you had to be willing to suspend reality, but the scenery alone was worth the staggering price of admission. Most of the film takes place in the south of France. For an hour and a half, I was able to forget everything and just laugh and fantasize about one day seeing Cannes in person. The performances were delightful and the story, although a little far-fetched at times, was fun. If you need a break, I would definitely suggest going to see this film.

I don’t guess I’ve seen a movie in the theater since 2005. I used to go at least once a week and sometimes more. Now that I’m not working it’s just too expensive. Besides I enjoy watching movies in our living room on the big screen TV. It’s not quite the same as the theater experience, but at least I can pause the movie when I have to go to the bathroom.

The Love Punch sounds like something I might enjoy. I’ll have to add it to my Netflix queue.
